Is it me, or does this kitty actually look SAD?

]]> He can't be sad-- he is so spoiled. But just in case, because I've heard that indoor cats can get really depressed and this indoor kitty is restricted to a small 1 bedroom apartment, I checked out the book, "250 Things You Can Do to Make Your Cat Adore You" by Ingrid Newkirk, the founder of PETA. Here's an excerpt:

"LITTERBOX ALERT

As you would wish to find it: That's how a cat's litterbox should always be left. Of all the indignities cats suffer at our hands, having us in charge of their litterbox arrangements is one of the worst. Cats' noses are sensitive, and their urine can be pungent. They do not wish to soil their dainty feet in it. Removing solid waste once or twice daily, or even after the act, isn't enough. A truly happy cat never has to wrinkle his nose--the litter pan is completely dumped daily, swilled with vinegar, washed with soap, and then thoroughly rinsed and dried..." (p. 26).

Urban kitty

]]> My urban kitty misses his true jungle environment. We got him a ficus plant but he ended up just causing trouble by attempting precarious movies like this so that he could nibble on its leaves. Jungle kitty, removed from his natural environment, seems to have lost some of the natural balance that comes along with that. My childhood pets (Penny, Romana, Wimpy, and Smokey--all cats) were much better acrobats than the Growlenator. He's getting better at using his claws to hold his balance and not fall off our 2 pieces of furniture, but when we first got him, what a clutz!

Patient kitty no more

]]> I believe it was shortly after these shots, for which a bit of restraint was necessary, that the cat began agressively attacking me and Jeff. Honestly, its become a bit of a behavior problem, but I hope this is just a sign that he's entering his teenage years and developing a 'tude.

Kitty moo moo

]]> Has SINCE this photo was taken completely mauled his favorite feather toy after a month of tearing it limb from limb like a real jungle cat should. He's ferocious, but the "bird" put up a good fight.

My little guy...

]]> is now TWICE this size you see here (I have a major backlog of photos to post). Originally weighing in at 2.5 lbs, Mr. Growley is now a whopping 4.8 lbs. The vet (Dr. Herman, all pets hospital--best vet ever man) says he's going to be big!!

]]> Silly kitty took a hiatus from the web, but now he's all recovered from his bout of feline upper respiratory infection (kitty cold), has a break between entertaining houseguests, and is ready to get back to his important kitty work.

it's very important to tire a kitty out by playing w/ feather toys so that s/he attempts to sleep at night. Otherwise, said cat will be zooming around the apartment all night, running laps and jumping on your head.
